AVID Sends "Liquid" Family of Video Editors Back To Pinnacle!
By Maurice Ali
AVID Technologies will drop the "Liquid" line of products and send these applications back to Pinnacle for future development. This was a surprise move - or maybe not so surprising - as the high end video/broadcast editing company purchased Pinnacle and used it's HD technology to further their own applications. Support is now moving to the Pinnacle website and development is again at the Germany headquarters.
So once again, the familiar AVID interface will stay the domain of high end totally professional applications. Avid's purchase of Digidesign and the company's "Pro Tools" applications seems to be a permanent thing as Pro Tools is imbedded in all traditional AVID editors and we have been using both since we started our organization. For example, it is possible to export audio from a sequence in my AVID editor and import it into Pro Tools and keep edit points - try that between other stand alone applications. Both Express and like and the various versions of Pro Tools are much like highway robbery in terms of entering the application club, but these are industry standard applications, so sometimes you just have to bit the bullet and bend over.....
In any event, FOF and MORE VISION are very much AVID and Pro Tools users and this stands us in good stead when we have to take our projects to broadcasters and high end production facilities. This one we got right from the start..... |
