The Fortress Documentary Goes Into High Gear!
By Maurice Ali, Journalist
With the TV Show virtually ready to be given to the broadcasters; I now turn our attention to our documentary which has been running in the shadows for quite some time.
The hardest part of film making is having the subject to make the activity worthwhile. Some people in the industry simply work for money and could not care less about what they are filming. We are archiving our little experiment in free speech as it is unique, and yes.....an experiment. We, as a group here, are spending our money and talent and time to do things that were not available to us outside this organization. I, for example, tried to get journalist validation with another Canadian institution.....never got anywhere. So we did things ourselves and we are succeeding. This makes our struggle worth the effort and worth recording. Even if it ends in failure, the story is worth recording and making available to the general public.
This documentary has its start with me just about to begin taping of the show, and a brief overview of our history. The end should be the result of our quest for NGO status. That gives us much more footage than could be included in the hour to one and a half hours that would be our documentary, but it is all good material.
I would like to submit this thing to some film festivals and see what happens - That should be interesting, and we will always hope for some award of recognition, that would be the ultimate. We really have no right to be doing this. We have no experience, money, etc.; but we are doing it nevertheless. That is what our organization does, this documentary is our voice. I will also supply a link below to keep our members and interested parties updated as to the progress of the documentary. A documentary, never thought I would be involved in that type of project - Life is full of surprises!
On to some practical matters:
1. After our taping of Shane Murphy; I decided I had to get better indirect lighting instead of the "interogation" lighting I had. So today I purchased our first (barely professional) light:
Who cannot accept the fact that this is a professional media company when we have a light and umbrella in our studio! Here are the two quite ordinary lights I had before:
What the hell - Another shot of the Studio last summer (It is less like a family room today):
