|FOF Goes High Definition!
The Fortress Of Freedom Corporation - in conjunction with the MORE VISION company( http://morevision.ca ) - is excited to announce that FOF productions will now be shot in 16:9 HD! The move was an eventuality as more and more, broadcasters and film festivals require 16:9 and HD as opposed to the usual SD in 4:3. For example; This years Toronto Film Festival will be the last to accept Digital Betacam (the format of our first TV show) and all future submissions must be HD. That was the final straw to convince me to go HD. We will still process in SD - DV25 - but all shooting in good light will be HD in 16:9 (wide screen). Just in the future, if we must submit HD; we can go to the original source material and provide HD content.

In addition to HD, our new camera also gives us 24p; this gives us the real ability to produce an actual film that can project onto real theater screens with the required quality expected in this medium. This purchase was a necessary one and made before finances exclude such a purchase.
The actual camcorder!
As an aside my first choice was the Panasonic P2. But the unavailability of P2 cards - the high cost - and the time limitations compared to tape (63 minutes) or the necessity of the 2,500.00 hard drive for HD - killed this prospect. There is not much post-purchase dissonance on this one, I picked right and we are moving back to TV/Movies with a vengeance all of a sudden - so there you go.....
Finally, it is very interesting that HD can only be used in good light, HD camcorders plain suck in poor light. Our PD170 is the "low light king"; the best camcorder for shooting in low light, so don't think this thing is being retired, it has it's purpose in our future productions..... - this was the best camcorder purchase we could ever have made!!!!!
