Things are finally getting back to normal in my life.

Anyway it’s all about the taxes, the tribunal case and the music.

One thing we have to do is rework many of our music videos. The pandemic really shows in these and I’ll leave it at that! So what’s good in music videos now? I really like the new Lil Nas X video (Industry Baby) that went up a week ago. That is a fun video if you aren’t too homophobic cause it’s about prison. The next is Normani (Wild Side) with a video the went up two weeks ago which is this is this hetero-bi thing but the visuals are great and sensual - but the cat in heat poses may be too obvious - but I’m an old guy….. Millions and millions of views for both so they are doing something thing right.

And then there are our videos at the label. So more work has to be done…..heheheheehe…..

Goodnight…..

It’s a long weekend where I live…..

So the plan is to first get the taxes done and then finish the tribunal stuff. I just want the taxes gone for another year so that is first.

What else?

Just updated my iPhone to better combat the Pegasus software many nations have to hack your phone. Of course my most secure phone is the BlackBerry as nobody bothers with OS10 anymore and with Krack fixed it really is the most secure with Blackberry Enterprise. It’s funny how so many in our provincial government still use Blackberries and now you know why. The phones lose support next year (that’s eight years of support) and there was talk about a BlackBerry 5G. But that phone will still be Android so why bother. Enterprise still works with Android and iOS so we still have good security but there are more exploits available.

My last BlackBerry - and we were the first with mobile payments - people just could not believe me paying for things with this phone - so cool back then to be BlackBerry!

I’ll take the family out to a few places and bing a bit on food but no dive bar this weekend. I have to take advantage of whatever dead time I have these days.

Still looking for heavy metal acts up here especially with a female lead. Plenty in the west but not so much in the east - but I keep looking!

Finally…..

The positive mandate and the global social contract are ripe for our times! Seriously, as our freedoms and expression are being taken away - it is the concept and philosophy of the positive mandate to reinforce why we need free expression because it makes us happy! That is a hard one to argue and I have the evidence through our experiment to back it up. So no regrets in all the money and time spent in all this. I can’t believe I would now have to prove we need free expression - but there you go. I just need to get the word out and advocacy for the rest of my active life…..

Goodnight…..

So why do I still run the record label and media companies after the experiment?

Because it gives me more options…..

Just take the advocacy: Right now it’s advocating at intergovernmental venues, but what happens if they get tired of me? What happens if I get shut out? If that happens I move to pop culture in the music and video. The music is an easier route as you can really get a popular idea out there if you lobby popular acts and personalities to take up your cause, even if it’s a subtle endorsement. That really gets the word out there in a big way - and being in the industry makes it easy for you to contact musicians and move up the “food chain”.

So I have some ideas and more options to get the word out! So for you intellectual folk scratching your head over my love of death metal and Japanese pop - well there is method to the madness. And who knows - you may click to a death metal song after being exposed to it. Maybe driving home in your car from work and you play it loud- but secretly and only in the car or in the air pods, or whatever. A secret convert!

In other news…..

I love trolling Japanese music and some of the anime is making its way to the west. For example, Poppy’s latest music video has her in a “non-real” mock-up and anime setting and morphed to her becoming anime in the end which is so totally Japanese in my eyes. That’s why I still have a phone number in Japan. Japan is sort of like England back in the day, they have some trends that take hold, but Blacks in the States still rule the music globally on the creative side, in my opinion.

Anyway it’s back to the taxes…..

Goodnight…..

On the tenth anniversary of our music festival FOFSTOCK, we made this announcement:

Maurice Ali wrote:
FOFSTOCK Ten Years Later!

By Maurice Ali

Night time crowd!

On this tenth anniversary since FOFSTOCK, I would like to tell you the future direction FOF Records is taking as the current pandemic slowly dissipates. Moving forward, FOF Records will be more profit motivated and independent, as one of Canada’s last independent corporate records labels. The only way to make money in the present environment is live action and here FOF Records wields a big stick! The corporation has been around for 13 years with a track record of producing new music and music festivals, and not only FOFSTOCK, but tour venues for well known acts like The Lox. We can easily access special event insurance and coordinate all necessary aspects of large outdoor events, or smaller concert events for a big name acts passing through town.

Jelleestone's fans at the stage barricades at FOFSTOCK!

These types of events attract money from government and business and fans and can sustain today’s record labels. In the future get ready for FOF Records to continue to fulfill it’s mission statement to promote creativity and exposure in the music industry for the betterment of artists and our culture!

Jelleestone's fans at FOFSTOCK!

More news as it happens.

https://fofrecords.com

FOF RECORDS: CUTTING EDGE MUSIC!

Now as optimistic as it sounds, things are getting worse on the pandemic front with double dosed people getting sick with Covid 19 over in the UK and in the States and especially after big events. So when things get back to normal is anyone’s guess. Despite vaccines, it sure looks like we are headed to the usual three year pandemic schedule on this one. So FOF Records may still be on ice for another year.

But we have one big stick most others in the music industry don’t’ have now, and that is liability insurance and liability protection. Liability protection comes from incorporation and anyone holding a large concert that is not incorporated is a fool as they assume full liability on themselves. In this market there is no reason to incorporate for small labels as you can’t take advantage of expenses like with a sole-proprietorship. The result is that FOF Records Inc. is one of the few corporate indie labels left standing. The next part is that we have a track record and can get the necessary liability insurance or special event insurance. Given some massive lawsuits lately it is hard for upstarts to cover concerts and music festivals with insurance and – no insurance equals no event! If you are the tour manager of a well known act, you aren’t performing at a venue that doesn’t have proper insurance. You and the act could be on the hook for any lawsuits and claims if anything happens and now you know why the insurance matters!

The other part of the equation is getting the venues to hold the concert or music festival and getting sponsors and government money to fund these events. FOFSTOCK was on me and I’m not doing that again. From now on they must fund themselves and I see no reason why they can’t. We have a track record now and 13 years of longevity to put us in a good position going forward. So that’s the plan for the near future – when things truly open up again.

In other news…..

The taxes are now done! All I have to do is check them over and send it in, and that leaves Monday for the tribunal dispute. So things are working out as planned.

Goodnight…..

Utterly boring post but important nevertheless…..

I’ll give all six corporate taxes a quick look over and go to the copiers to copy all the forms to paper and then send it all in. Then I wait for the tax man /woman/binary to call and tell me where I screwed up and that it does not matter given the money involved. As a side note, the record label actually made a profit mostly from CD sales but that ship has now sailed and we have to get cash from live events or merchandise. I did download all my asset files from Amazon Media on Demand as they go dark in 15 days. The movies and TV stuff is still there as we can still put fiction on Prime - that is just a technicality for us - but still technically an option. I expect this also to be gone soon and all that remains is bragging rights that our stuff was once on Prime…..

Strangely much of the human rights tribunal case is done and I will just keep at it. I want to do it properly as I have a good case. I thought nothing would get done but when I forced myself to get into it things moved along well!

I defrosted the fridge which is a thankless job but has to be done - but it is now done! Washed the car and wiped down the engine. Don’t ever “wash” your car engine or hose it down! You will just screw up connections and stuff and create more problems. Just take old rags wet and wrung out and wipe it down. With us three and a half months from the last radiator fluid leek, I’m loving the car again as problem free after four years. The oil change jockey said he saw oil sweat around the pan last time but not a drop on the ground and the car loses no oil on the stick so I may leave well enough alone. With less than one year to go on the power train warranty I will go over everything just to be sure, but these days it’s just wear and tear that’s my only concern. I even poured water over the usual culprits for water leaks and everything is bone dry inside. So the car got sorted out on the long weekend.

I preened myself up a bit and I also watched the movie “Tenet” which reminds me of “Journey to the Far Side of the Sun” where everything is reversed, except in Tenet everything is inverted. It’s interesting and Nolan should be applauded for fronting a Black Man as the protagonist but they still kept him from having a romance with the White female lead - there is always that! Still, I wish I could have been a fly on the wall when Nolan proposed the Black dude as the leading man, this would suppress sales but I guess he was “big enough” to have his way - bravo! But the Black dude is front and centre, many times by himself in the ad campaign, so it is refreshing. Haven’t seen that since the Blade movies…..

Goodnight…..

I actually received an email back from Doug Ford:

The is is obviously some standard email they send everyone and sent from some low level staffer in his office. So we just continue with the human rights tribunal application.

I have too many websites and this is a drain on my cash. At least 5 renewals today alone. We will seriously cut these down in the next few years, but man is this a drain on resources…..

To be perfectly honest, what has to be done now is buying clothing and stuff at the malls while you can before the forth wave - for myself and the rest of the family. I got a battery booster last week as a start and I just keep at it. You still have to be careful as the delta variant drops vaccine efficacy to 60 percent for AZ and 68 percent for Pfizer. Hospitalizations are better all in the eighties but one out of five is in trouble which is not good. Moderna is the best here with 96 percent efficacy in keeping you out of the hospital. Better than Pfizer by ten points! Of course I’m in “shit city” with two does of AZ and one from the third world and the other from the States where contamination could be a problem. Yes the application will continue…..

The advocacy is still in limbo. You kids are still too young to see new ideas take hold and evolve until they are embedded in everything. That is what I am trying to do. This is hard in normal times but the pandemic really has screwed me over. It is what it is - but what a bummer at this stage…..

Goodnight…..

I’m good on my word and here is the first step:

FOF AND FOF Records Create Live Action/Concerts Division!

By Maurice Ali, President:
Fortress of Freedom Inc. / FOF Records Inc.

The Fortress of Freedom corporation and FOF Records Inc. have now created a new division of our organization solely devoted to live action and concerts and music festivals!

Tyler Craig

Our own Tyler Craig has been offered and accepted a position in this division which will fund and stage live events under our corporate labels. So from all of us at this organization, we wish Tyler all the best in his new position!

Jelleestone at FOFSTOCK!

Fortress of Freedom and FOF Records have been an establishment in the Toronto music scene creating music with a catalogue of three hundred songs, radio play, television and movie performances along with big outdoor concerts and indoor venues with Grammy nominated acts! Fortress of Freedom has been active for over 17 years and FOF Records has been active for over 13 years empowering local artists and creators to express themselves and add their creativity to the fabric of Canadian culture!

The Lox in Niagara Falls!

FOF RECORDS: CUTTING EDGE MUSIC!

There will be more names added to the division but Tyler was the first. We set up the structure and that with our past accomplishments are then used to look for sponsors and receive money to put on events. Anyway that’s enough for today - I have to run some errands…..

Pize has signed up for live action:

Maurice Ali wrote:
Pize Zumbovski joins the Live Action/Concerts Division!

Fortress of Freedom Inc. / FOF Records Inc.

Pize Zumbovski

The Fortress of Freedom corporation and FOF Records Inc. are excited to announce that Pize Zumbovski has been offered and accepted a position in the Live Action and Concerts division which will fund and stage live events under our corporate labels. So from all of us at this organization, we wish Pize all the best in his new position!

AAVRY KNAPP!

Pize Zumbovski is a true journeyman musician with over 35 years of experience in the music industry. He was one of the co-founders of AAVRY KNAPP in the 1980s playing famous venues in and around Ontario like The Gasworks where they were a regular. The band produced two cassettes back in the day as well as two CDs with FOF and radio play on 102.1 THE EDGE here in Toronto. Pize has been signed with FOF for the past 16 years under AAVRY KNAPP and most recently under his new band The Brawlers which now has produced its first EP under the FOF Records label. All their music can be found and streamed on most popular platforms for you listening pleasure.

https://youtu.be/jNnPZsekkMQ

Pize knows all about concerts and music festivals and will be a fine addition to this new division. You can even check out his early concerts on YouTube in their entirety at the FOF Records Inc. YouTube channel! Once again, best wishes for Pize and his new position at FOF!

https://aavryknapp.com
https://thebrawlers.com

FOF RECORDS: CUTTING EDGE MUSIC!

Yes he has been around, check out this concert off his way back in the late 1980s:

https://youtu.be/zYBzU0Zm4YE

But he’s also been involved in new music with The Brawlers:

https://youtu.be/jNnPZsekkMQ

So the division is getting populated. I’m running the label as a business now and not putting my own money in. It’s a hard thing to do but after all
this time the label has to learn how to exist on its own before I can even think of handing them the thing off.

Many of you will think I’m crazy to keep trying to make a go of a traditional record label when almost all others have gone bankrupt. I thought about it a lot, but at the end of the day you are stuck with the decisions you make. You would like to say that my life ain’t worth trying to keep a record label alive and I should cut my ties to it and live life for myself. Actually I could say that about the video and the advocacy and the association. I would have more money for myself and do whatever I want to do. But the price of my life is precisely those choices that I made that defines it.

Strangely, this is best shown in the media in an old movie called “Hooper” staring Jan Michael Vincent and Burt Reynolds; but it is the director Hal Needham - who was really behind that idea. Hal was probably the greatest stuntman of all time and Hooper was about stuntmen. And he spelled it out at the end about risk and the value of your life defined by the choices you make. One thing stuntmen/stuntwoman demand is that no matter how risky the stunt, you keep the camera rolling and on the stuntman, even if he dies. If you turn the camera away because of an accident, the footage he gave his/her life for is lost and the value of his death in his craft is lost. It’s all so cool, this is stuff from before computer generated images when everything was real and risky.

So running a label that may go belly up is not so risky after all, but I signed up to run the thing and I will continue to run it even if it gets run into the ground…..

Goodnight…..

I slept in which is a good thing…..

But now that I’m up it is back to recruiting more folk for the record label and finishing off the human rights Covid 19 case. Even if I delay the case I suppose I should have it ready to go regardless. Anyway I have to make the most of what time I have left today, so a more involved update later.

I spent Saturday sleeping in or buying clothing just in case we go into lockdown again.

I have to say, vaccines don’t seem to be working like they used to, The Delta seems to spread with vaccinated and fully vaccinated people are headed off to hospitals. The Columbian variant seems to be unaffected by vaccines. Of course I have 2 doses of AZ so I’m probably screwed more than the others here and even if they get the booster, it was never designed for me. So the discrimination case goes ahead.

All this points to all my plans basically going into the crapper for the time being. Even the record label stuff now has to be seriously reconsidered given we may be in this for another year and a half. So I should really just get the case off to the tribunal and just keep paying things off as there is nothing else you can do. This just sucks in the worst way! In the end I did get all the videos and movies out there. I did get the positive mandate out there and all that remains is the Global Social Contract which really was a new thing after the positive mandate. But I could just put everything into standby and wait it out. This is the great thing about how I engineered fortress, as they run on vapors, a lesson from Ryerson business school back in the day.

I did spiff up FOF Entertainment getting new checks ordered along with a new check binder. But basically no new fixed costs for that corporation. Seriously, I should just worry about not getting sick and handling the home front and wait it out. This could have been the end of my advocacy but we have that one last bit if I ever get the chance for things to get back to normal. It is what it is and I’m not the only one bitching about things as they are.

Time is running out on me and this thing just keeps dragging on. There is only reality and life can just suck in a big way because it’s reality. So even with the best of plans and the best of ideas, a pandemic just fucks it all up and there is no way to blunt the statement. It’s back to work on the court case for Sunday and while I thought I had over bought PPE in the last few days – now – I’m glad I have my supply…..

Goodnight…..

I still find it funny how people are most interested in a company that should not even exist in the current entertainment climate. But there you go again - it is what it is…..

IAIJ has officially applied to participate at the upcoming World Bank annual meetings in the fall.

We should get in but these days you don’t know what will happen. All I can do is apply and keep applying and hope for the best…..

In other news:

We keep looking for more people for the concerts and live action division. I’m particularly interested in folk who are not out-and-out dedicated musicians. Our next event and let’s call it FOFSTOCK 2 will be a music festival and thus many of our gang will be performing. That being the case, they will be interested in their performances and celebrating afterward. So at the end of the day and during the day we need people to help run the event and man tables and all the things that make a concert tick. And especially after the event - everything has to be picked up and put in the trucks.

That gong - it’s bigger than it looks!

That end part I don’t want to repeat. FOFSTOCK at the time was already the longest day of my life and I was up on the skyjack taking the banner down totally exhausted. We didn’t leave till 4:00am the next morning. And all the while YDS staff and local police were driving up with a cop usually running up and banging that huge gong (you can’t make this stuff up) we had on stage last used by Nazareth at one of their concerts! Yes the gong was popular…..

I find it bizarre that I’m actually seriously considering another music festival as I swore I would never do another on ever again! I guess putting in music festivals is like child birth…..

I’m just going to finish up the human rights tribunal case and be done with it. Even if you meticulously prepare the thing, if there is another case like it in the works it will probably be shelved, and I’m sure there probably are a few. So I’ll just go through the motions and be done with it.

I’m also throwing out old socks and clothing as I had so much I don’t want to be called a hoarder. The hardest part is starting, but that happened yesterday and you just keep going!

Don’t get too crazy about the new music talk. If things happen they happen but it’s not what I want now. The people in the record label have to want what we do and contribute or nothing happens. That’s my policy. I’m not putting on a music festival for personal bragging rights. I don’t make money, I don’t get laid, and in fact it is more the reverse of all that! So that’s how we roll from now on. This will be a shock to some but the gravy days where I just opened my wallet and paid for everything is over…..

All the pandemic did was mess up the advocacy, the commercial corporations are actually sitting pretty as much of the competition has gone belly up. If my gang wants to take advantage we will move on that. But if there is complacency, then we can just keep things the way they are…..

Goodnight…..

Stuff is still happening.

What I kept secret is how this age discrimination case sort of parallels my passing interest in the agism topics at the UN. As I pitch the social contract stuff successfully or unsuccessfully at the UN, I may also poke my nose in those conferences and see it they need any help. The kids today don’t know it but they may live to 130 years old. Policies made today have to plan for such longevity or else we end up with some kind of enforced age euthanasia at a time when people keep their wits about them into old age. Sort of like the movie Logan’s Run but not at 30.

But you get the idea, we need creative ideas for the aged but older advocates are usually not as rabid as they were in their youth. But I’ll take a look and if they are fine as is I’ll leave them alone, or if they need some more help I may offer my humble abilities and get into it! I wanted to be a man of the world and that is what that sort of person does…..

Goodnight…..

I’m now checking awards at the tribunal and the largest are actually quite small at about 200,000 but if they can rule on a group then my 3.8 billion will be the largest award ever! I’m a bad-ass, no doubt about it.

The funny part is me looking for a precedent and and not finding one, and then realizing that you are doing something rare and you are the precedent. Most of the case will probably be thrown out as they may have immunity during states of emergency, so I’ll have to rely on their activities in non-emergency times as compared to places like Quebec that did allow revaccinating AZ folk for reasons like travel. We will just have to submit on Monday along with the supporting material and see what happens.

Goodnight…..

Update:

All fields and files are done! All I have to do is keep looking at things and tweaking them and submit on Monday! Finally - the thing is done! All that work and I will probably get little in return.

Well, either you are a “man of the world” or you are not…..
