|Labor Union Protest At Queen's Park!
By Maurice Ali and the IAIJ Journalists
Toronto, Canada - June 27, 2010 - Labor unions and other "umbrella organizations" converged on the Ontario Legislative Buildings to voice their discontent with the G8/G20 Summit. Aside from the large unions such as the CAW there were also the usual NGOs like OXFAM and GREENPEACE and every other fringe group you could think of.
It was raining at the rally and everything was peaceful.
The rally and march started well enough but ended badly as one element called the "Black Bloc" broke ranks on Queen Street and headed up Yonge Street looting and vandalizing the businesses there.
Police were slow to repond and the vandals had free reign of Queen Street and Yonge street up to College Avenue. This passive behaviour by the police would be changed in a big way during the protest next day.
